A second infantry brigade was formed from reinforcements currently in Egypt. A third infantry brigade, the " Rifle Brigade ", had arrived complete from New Zealand. The New Zealand Division was originally attached to I Anzac Corps and departed for France in April 1916.

According to the history of the Wellington Regiment Pg 91-92 on formation of the 2nd Battalion there was a Taranaki Company with both 1st and 2nd Battalions, along with Wellington West Coast, Hawkes Bay and Ruahine Company's dupicated in both. When a 3rd Battalion was formed these were duplicated again.
